North American robotics market - the face of manufacturing is changing

Indicators for the North American robotics market are at an all-time high. The Robotic Industries Association (RIA) reports about the strongest First Quarter On Record with USD 516 Million in orders from North American robotics companies. These numbers have encouraging implications on two levels. They are speaking of economic growth for the robotics companies. And they indicate that many industries are willing to drive the level of automation further. With investments in machines as well as expenditures in human resources as RIA reports.

RIA (Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA) counted 9,773 robots ordered from North American robotics companies during the first quarter of 2017. This represents growth of 32 percent in units over the same period in 2016. Robot shipments also reached new heights, with 8,824 robots valued at USD 494 million shipped to North American customers in the opening quarter of the year. This represents growth of 24 percent in units and five percent in dollars over the same period in 2016. Automotive is leading the way

The face of manufacturing is changing and to no ones surprise the automotive industry is on the forefront. A breathtaking 53 percent is the growth of robots ordered by automotive component suppliers. Orders by automotive OEMs increased 32 percent.

These economic data fits the observations that Helmuth Ziewers makes as head of CENIT North America: “We witness a new prevailing mindset. It is not so much about what should be automated but what our partners would not want to be done by robots in the future.” This holds true for the automotive as well as the aviation industry where CENIT has also long standing partnerships.

One platform, endless options

CENIT’s core product for the shopfloor is the digital factory platform FASTSUITE Edition 2. “One platform, endless options” says the slogan and the software is indeed giving strong answers to many challenges the industry faces going ahead with automation, claims Ziewers. For example introducing advanced manufacturing technologies by keeping the complexity of programming at bay. Or bringing together the process simulation and the actual behavior of the manufacturing cells to be built later.

2017 could be a remarkable year for automation in North America. And for CENIT.
